Will stands outside the Captain's quarters with a determined look on his face. He raises his grimy mechanics hand, and knocks on the door.

The voices of the captain and Red grow quiet on the other side of the door. A few moments pass by and then the Beastman can hear the older man opening the door. The Captain's eyes looked intently at the mechanic, a touch of worry at the corner of his eyes. He turned and walked back into his quarters, "Come on in Will, make yourself comfortable."Captain Conrad Fischer

"Thank you, sir," Will says. He is aware of human pleasantries, and the etiquette expected of him as a crew member.
As he steps into the room, he continues, "I need to talk to you about Trouble. I think we need to sort some things out." He then waits patiently for the Captain to give him permission to speak.

The Captain's quarters are spartan, a few items from his time in the Raummarine Navy decorate the small area. Some old flags, an old uniform, and photos on the wall. A broken haft of a hand weapon and a few knick knacks from other ports on shelves. Several leather bound books sit behind his small wooden desk. The Captain sat in his chair, and motioned to the beastman to have a seat in the chair on the other side of his desk. "Do you want some coffee Will, or a drink?"Captain Conrad Fischer

Will smiles, and says, "Sure, a drink would be nice." Then he seats himself at the small table saying, "Trouble isn't human, and I feel the crew doesn't understand that. They think they are harmlessly undercutting my authority, when they are actually endangering the child." Will shakes his head sadly.

The Captain leans over and pours two tumblers worth of rum and slides one over to the mechanic. When Will mentioned his daughter, the Captain's eyes glances over at a pair of pictures of a young blond hair, blue eyed girl on his desk. One as a small child, the other with the same woman, but older and in a military uniform. "Tell me what happened Will. To be honest I only know of racist rumors and speculation how children of beastmen are raised and I wouldn't want to make any assumptions on what happened or the effect it will have."
There is a small bit of concern on the captain's face as he listens to the big crew member in front of him. Captain Conrad Fischer

Will nods, and says, "Beastmen have a form of genetic memory. We dream at night, and relive the memories or the past, and talk to the ghosts of our ancestors. Because of this, Beastmen children will never not be Beastmen. That's why they are dangerous and capable to fighting at very young ages. It's also why we tend to always find our own."
Will waits for a second for that to sink in, and continues, "Because of this, I have an entire culture in Troubles brain, all the good and the bad. My race has been used as shock troops by Chaos forever, and humans and Altharins more recently. I am fighting a losing battle to raise Trouble to see that being in a war band is a bad idea."
Will's yellow goat eyes narrow into anger, "The dreams she lives at night don't take into account that she is a gave child, with very small prospects of ever looking like me or any other fully animalistic Beastman. They push her to fight, to kill, and to join a chaos tainted war band as a climb to power. Yet, as strong as she is, and as smart as she is, her looks alone will assure her nothing to servitude, and degradation. She will be beaten, owned, and killed for sport most likely if she really did get to a serious war band. I've lived that life, and I know. Even if she changes at puberty, she will probably still have to fight that fight, constantly watching her back, while trying to navigate chaos allegiances."
"She is not human, and while she won't do well as a gave child amongst Beastmen, she is bloody dangerous in the human world. She has bloodlust just like me, she can rip a man's throat out with hands and teeth, with no remorse. She knows fighting styles from half a dozen different sources, that have filtered into the Dreaming for my people. Yet, she doesn't possess an adult wisdom to know what to do with it. She is 12 years old. At this point in her life, she can follow my path, learn to control things, or she can become a monster lurking the darker elements of humanity as a hired thug and murderer." Will explains.
"Now that the background is out of the way, I don't want that for my daughter. That means, when I do some very non-human things such as lock her up in the brig, it's because she could, if provoked the wrong way, kill one of your crew. Hurt you, or go after Red. She won't mean to. She is just a 12 year old Beastman with no self control. They occasionally kill each other, or adult Beastmen in the bands that raise them. I am not an abusive father if I backhand her. I'm asserting dominance, so she will do as I say. She'll get over this teen thing, and be able to function by her mid to late teens," Will says.
"Now, the crew? Undercutting my authority, and actively getting her out of the brig? All they are serving to do is feed her Beastman Dream-fed ambitions of becoming a chaos champion, and undercutting any authority I might have to keep her from it. I'm already fighting a losing battle to keep her out of it, but to offer to be a mount? The cat doesn't realize enslaving mounts is what we do. Trouble already has a thousand memories and voices telling her how to keep and break a Mishar at night. It's not innocent, and cannot be encouraged," Will says, and then downs his drink.
"I need to know on this ship, that my daughter will not be interfered with, nor that my authority won't be undercut. This is an ideal position for me, but she is in her beginning teens, and this is precarious. I'm fighting for her soul, in a very real way," Will finishes.

Captain Fischer sat back and listened as the beastman talked. He nodded as Will confirmed things he had heard, but never seen firsthand. "Will, first I want to thank you for coming to me first. I want to reassure you that nothing you said changes how I feel about having Trouble on board. I like her, Red loves her, she and you are family here."
He takes a deep drink from the glass. "I think perhaps we need to talk with Illiana as well. Let us clear this up. As a father I have to agree that I do not believe others should interfere with the raising of a child. I especially don't want to endanger the crew, or even more so Trouble. While Red is almost always aware of what everyone is doing and saying, I wouldn't want to risk an issue. I especially wouldn't want to contribute to her following Chaos. I have seen that route by fellow soldiers and it is something I would never recommend for anyone."A second sip is taken. "I wasn't even able to get myself to do it to fix Red, we all know the promises are at most half-truths."The Captain turned to the picture of his daughter as a child. "Red, please call Illiana to my quarters."Captain Conrad Fischer

The Captain watches as Illiana walks in and nods to the second chair. "Please have a seat Illiana, we need to talk."The Captain then pours a third glass of rum and slides it to where the woman will sit. He then refills his glass and offers more to Will. "Will is here to explain how beastmen children operate, what they need, etc. Once he is done explaining to us, please tell me what the situation is with you and Trouble. No one is in trouble at all, so please do not worry about what may have happened in the past, we are working out how to raise a beastman child in the future."Captain Conrad Fischer

Will nods, and begins his explanation again.
"Trouble is not a human child. She has the voices and memories of her ancestors in her head when she sleeps. These voices are of the dead, and they don't care about Troubles situation. They just goad her onwards. This is especially strong during puberty," Will explains.
"Trouble is a gave child. She was human born, but the father was undoubtedly a Beastman. She has very little chance at all of looking like me, or other animalistic Beastmen, and that is considered weak, and worthy of slavery. If she decides upon adulthood to go back to our people, she will live a very brutal short life where bigger Beastmen will see her physical looks, and attempt to enslave her, kill her for sport, or use her as disposable troops," Will says, while watching Illiana.
"The voices in her head don't care. They urge her to join a war band, and join Chaos because of the power it may give her. When you offer to be her mount, those same voices will tell her how to break and enslave Mishar with hundreds of years of experience. It's not all bad, because she knows our culture and learns tactics and fighting as she sleeps. It's how a 12 year old human looking child can kill the way she does," Will continues.
"She also has blood lust, and no self control, meaning all these voices telling her to join chaos, get a mount, and kill to solve problems are hitting an all time high. She will hear nothing else as she grows the next few years, and I have to be on guard, or my daughter will heed those voices, and attempt to go down that path," Will's eyes flash as he says this.
"Humans like to say they fight for souls in their religions, but I am doing that when I lock her in the brig. I'm letting her cool down, without killing anyone on board. Undercutting my authority means she feels she can get away with increasingly violent behavior. If she does not learn control now, she will be a danger to the crew, and any humans she comes across, but won't be able to fit into Beastmen society because she looks too human, and will be beaten and killed there eventually," he says.
"I need this talk of mounts, and war bands to stop," Wills ays bluntly, then waits.
